Country House Interior Design Project

This house receives its inspiration from the places that the homeowners have visited. After their first trip to Europe thirty years ago, the owners of this original log home searched high and low for a house similar to many they saw in Britain and France - wood-beamed and classic. They purchased three pioneer log houses from various places in Ontario and transported them to their country property. Painstakingly they were reassembled with the new combined space measuring 3,600 sq.ft. which includes five bedrooms. (There is no basement in this house, rather, it is built on a concrete slab.) Susan has overseen the decorating, using traditional fabrics from Sanderson and Brunschwig & Fils  and blending these with antiques from France, Italy and England. Bold colours, patterned carpets and modern art give this century plus home an up-to-date feeling. The four grown children return every weekend with friends, fiances and spouses from university and their homes and jobs in the city. Sunday lunch is always busy and although the dining room measures 20' x 20'  it's becoming too tight and plans are afoot to build an extension with a larger dining room and four more bedrooms.
